TRAVEL TIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL TRIPS
·
Carry a copy of your passport with you
at all times while your original is locked in your hotel safe/cruise ship room
safe.
·
Leave a copy of your passport, itinerary
at home with someone who is going to be your emergency contact including your
travel agent and take your travel agents phone number with you. Don’t be alarmed if the hotel asks for your
passport. Some hotels are sometimes required
to hold your passport overnight to comply with their local regulations.
·
Do bring
medical necessities (prescription in original bottles) and any other
over-the-counter medicines such as Tylenol, Tums, Benadryl, etc. and insurance
card. DO NOT PACK IN CHECKED BAG YOUR PRESCRIPTION IN CASE OF LOSS LUGGAGE.
·
Make sure you also leave copies of your
credit cards, medical card and driver licenses at home in a location someone
can get in case any items are lost or stolen.
Notify your credit card companies of your travel plans so that no
charges are denied.
·
Tour companies sometimes will arrange a
wake-up call for all passengers depending on the agenda for the following
day. Always have a backup alarm clock in
case you are a heavy sleeper.
·
Please remember to be considerate of
others on the tour by being on time and at the right meeting place.
·
Always bring a small fold-up umbrella
for everyone in your group so that you do not have to wear or carry an extra
jacket during mild weather.
·
Remember when entering cathedrals or
churches that you are dressed appropriately (sleeveless blouses and shorts
sometimes are not accepted).
·
Washcloths are not standard in most
hotels in Europe . Take a washcloth or buy a box of towelettes
from home.
·
When you depart your hotel for a day of
sightseeing always remember to have a hotel business card or hotel information
with you in case the taxi driver does not speak English and you can show the
driver where you are staying for your return to the hotel.
·
If you are big shopper please remember
that there are baggage restrictions with international airlines. How about bringing a duffle bag for extra purchases?
ATMs
1) Use ATMs located in well-lit public
areas, or secured inside the bank/business.
2) Cover the keypad with one hand as you
enter your PIN.
3) Look for gaps, tampered appearance,
or other irregularities between the metal faceplate of the ATM and the card
reader.
4) Avoid card readers that are not flush
with the face of the ATM.
5) Monitor your account statements for
unauthorized transactions.
